I have been having big trouble with math lately.
Lousy at MathI have been having big trouble with math lately. Perhaps some of our readers can help me out. This past week Congress and the Senate passed a bail out bill and the President signed it. Now here is how the problem with my math comes in. I'm trying to figure out how much this bail out program represents when broken down to the number of Americans we have today. Here is the official number as of today 305,334,714 is our population. OK, now you take that 700 billion dollars that are involved in this bail out and you divide them by the number of living Americans. Ooops! I forgot, they added a hundred and fifty-billion more in Pork that I almost overlooked. Let's even it off with a few dollars more just for leakage that often occurs in government programs and call it a trillion dollars. OK, now how many of you have a calculator bigger than this little one I work with? How much does that come to for each living American? Now, I figure with the disabled, those on welfare and unemployment and social security and those who are children and senior citizens that you would have to eliminate about half the population as non tax payers. So, if you take half of the Americans who might possibly qualify to come up with the money for that bail our, how much would it cost each of us? I got lost with all of those numbers but earlier when I tried it I came up with a figure of $33,000 + each for each American so I would suppose it might come to $66,000 each for tax payers, but that figure was before they added the pork which evidently has to be added to anything that congress or the senage can be persuaded to pass these days. If any of you would be kind enough to do this math correctly and send me the answer I would be indeed indebted to you. Who knows, as I said my math is rotten and I might have dropped or added a few zeroes. I wonder if any of our legislators thought of this in terms of what it could cost the American tax payer?
