This morning, FHA Commissioner Brian Montgomery announced that the new HECM nationwide loan limit (maximum claim amount) will be $417,000. The target effective date is November 1.

The National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association announced today that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approved a single national loan limit of $417,000 for federally insured Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) reverse mortgages.
Monthly HECM Production-2008 Record Year

FHA endorsed 9,494 reverse mortgages in September, bringing the total amount for fiscal year 2008 to a record 112,154. By comparison, FHA insured 7,695 loans in September 2007 totaling a then-record 107,558.
