Mark Godfrey, ABMA Convention Committee Chair describes the Technical Presentations as follows: "ABMA added Technical Presentations to our Suppliers Display in 2008, which were well received and provided more value to our members. During the course of the 2009 Suppliers Display there will be two, fifteen-minute technical presentations, sponsored by the presenting companies that are geared to provide specific technical information regarding a product or service important to our industry. The Technical Presentations are not advertisements for the presenting company's products, but rather specific technical educational programs geared to educate the members on a generic topic." In 2007 the Technical Presentations were as follows: Borghi USA and Bodam Int'l. - "Using Skype to boost productivity and profits" Hahl Filaments - "Introduction to Monofilaments" Interwire Products - "Understanding Effects of Corrosion on Varying Wires" Benefits are Many Godfrey stated further that the benefits of Technical Presentations are many. "First and foremost, the purpose of the Technical Presentation is to elevate and enhance the knowledge base of the membership, thereby improving their competitiveness. An added benefit is that the presentations will serve to make the display trade floor "stickier", giving our attendees even more reason to stay on the trade floor for the entire show. Additionally, the opportunity for sponsorship promotes the esteem of the presenter company as an industry leader and as a technically driven, teaching organization. How to Become a Presenter ABMA will furnish a booth that will come complete with a riser and a PA system. There will be one company presentation from 9:00 AM - 9:15 AM and a second company presentation from 11:00 AM to 11:15 AM. There will be no other technical presentations given. Should any other AV equipment be necessary, ABMA will work with the presenting company to get what is needed to support your presentation. The presentations are to be technical and informative but are not to be infomercials for your specific "branded" products. However, they can be topics which specifically relate to your products, as long as they are discussed "generically". Your presentation should last no more than 15 minutes, including questions. Should questions remain, please ask the interested parties to stop by your booth or to make an appointment to see you later. What You Get for What You Pay Should your company be selected to make a presentation, ABMA will invoice your company $250 in January 2009 to cover a portion of the booth costs, which include rental and decoration space, power, PA and AV costs, including internet access if needed. ABMA will underwrite the balance of the expense. In return, your company will have sponsorship recognition and special mention and placement in the ABMA Convention Mailing, Convention Brochure, Convention Schedule, all printed and Internet materials, and special recognition and signage in the ABMA Presentation booth. Furthermore, your company will be named as a Presentation sponsor during the Opening Session and discussed as an important program contributor. As an important innovative new feature of the ABMA Annual convention, your company will receive considerable exposure, recognition and image enhancement. Submit Your Presentation Idea to ABMA by October 1 Please submit your presentation topic to ABMA by October 1 so that our directors can approve and select the topics at their November meeting. A simple email will suffice. Headquarters may contact you for additional information or clarification. Email Dave Parr: dparr@abma.org Upon BOD approval, ABMA will invoice your company in January 2009. ABMA will serve as your presentation partner in terms of logistics and will help in whatever way we can. Partnering to Add Membership Value This represents a chance for your company to shine in the light. Preparation and execution are vital to the success of your presentation. ABMA is your partner in this effort and we want to assist in any way we can for your company to deliver interesting and effective content, so we welcome your input during this development process. Mr. Godfrey stated: "ABMA is always striving to make our Suppliers Display better and more important for our members, and the Suppliers Display is already a signature event of every ABMA annual convention. The addition of technical presentations give our members even more reason to come early and stay late on the exhibit floor as they will now have a special opportunity to learn specific technical information relevant to improving their knowledge base and brush making skills, providing a clear "win-win" for ABMA members." For Immediate Release ABMA Mourns Lloyd "The Chief" Benjamin Lloyd Benjamin On April 7th Lloyd "The Chief" Benjamin, 89 year old founder of Precision Brush Company, passed away. He was one of the last old time brush makers who was still active in the industry. He founded Precision Brush Company in 1951 by designing and building his own metal channel strip brush machines. He always enjoyed working through mechanical problems and his life's work in the brush industry suited him well. He came to work most days including the weekends, but had given up most of his responsibilities years ago. One of his self proclaimed responsibilities was keeping the driveway clear of the Canadian Geese. On March 20th while chasing the geese with a snow shovel, he tripped and injured his head. After a helicopter flight to the hospital and a few weeks in the Intensive care unit he lost the battle. The Chief will be remembered for his thoughtfulness toward others, his outgoing nature and his hard work and determination. Stories about his years as a pilot flying through the Himalayan mountains during WWII and the early struggles and successes starting Precision Brush will be with us forever. Although all of us at Precision brush are saddened by our loss, we are comforted by the warm wishes, prayers and memories that have come to us from many our friends in the industry. We are proud of him and proud of the life that he lived. He was truly an inspiration to all of us. Lloyd did not want a formal service, but he did have a fondness in his heart for the House Ear Institute where they are dedicated to advancing hearing science through research and education. He suffered from hearing loss and in 1986 received a cochlear implant, which miraculously allowed him to hear again. The Benjamin family has asked that instead of flowers, donations could be made in his name to: House Ear Institute 2100 W. 3rd Street Los Angeles, CA 90057 (213) 483-4431 Very positive feedback from exhibitors on the Inter Brush international trade fair in Freiburg 7,000 trade visitors from around 90 nations attended the leading international trade fair for the brush and paintbrush industry Click here for more information...
